In this area there are several common mulches: Double Hammered hardwood Mulch is commonly used as a good all purpose mulch. It helps to retain moisture around ornamentals and other plant material.

Shredded Hardwood Mulch is a finer mulch that also helps to retain moisture and is slightly more decorative.

Other mulches used from time to time based on personal preference would include: Cedar Chips, Cypress Chips, or Pine nuggets

Another common Mulch in the Charlotte area is pine straw. Pine Straw is a very effective alternative to other mulches.
